Ride 5 - Desborough to Brixworth Country Park (Sepsis UK)
Planned for completion in May 2022. Exact date and plans will be confirmed nearer the date.
Round trip allowing the Brampton Valley Way, retired railway, taking in the 500m Kelmarsh Tunnel (which may or may not be Haunted) and has zero natural light 30K.
This ride is in support of UK Sepsis Trust. It is in Memory of all those that have succumbed to this devastating illness but, in particularly, to the memory of my brother Andy Curl.
Andy was struck down by Sepsis at the tragically young age of only 50 years.
Seemingly in good health, he was taken very quickly.
Anything that can be done to improve the detection and survival of this awful illness and to lessen the number of people going through the same pain, will be wonderful.
Starting on the outskirts of the market town of Desborough, Northamtonshire, this route takes us down into the Brampton Valley on local rural roads.
We join the Brampton Valley Way at the site of the former Kelmarsh Station.
Travelling along the former Market Harborough to Northampton line, passing through the famous Kelmarsh Tunnel (over ⅓ Mile of unlit pitch darkness), we travel for a number of miles until climbing back out of the valley to the beautiful Brixworth Country Park, where we stop for refreshments on the bank of Pitsford Water.
Suitably refreshed and rested, we return back the way we came.
The majority of this ride is off road and along level(ish) cycle routes.
There are, however a small number of hills, to get the blood pumping (both Up and Down)
Stunning scenery abounds and it would be a glorious ride for all those that are interested.
